Motorola DEXT – Motorola CLIQ / DEXT Review
The Motorola Dext is the latest announced offering from Motorola. It is an Android, PDA style phone with a full QWERTY keyboard which is elegant and will no doubt be popular. The extensive functionality contained within the DEXT offers multiple means of performing tasks with ease. Its stylish design ensures that it will get noticed when out and about. The unit is tabled to be released in October 2009.
The DEXT is also known as the Motorola CLIQ in other markets.
The 3.1 inch TFT capacitive touch screen displays 256,000 colours at a pixel size of 320 x 480 pixels. The clarity of image is excellent and visually exciting. The touch screen uses the MOTOBLUR user interface as its means of navigation with a 5 way navigation button as an additional means of accessing functionality. An accelerometer and proximity sensors are also built into the DEXT which offer the ability to auto correct the aspect of images and to save battery power when not in use. The addition of a full QWERTY keyboard is essential for this style of phone and as such is an excellent addition.
The Motorola DEXT comes with a 5.0 mega pixel camera which operates at a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. Auto focus, as well as the ability to geo tag images comes as standard. Video recording and playback are included with the quality being listed as HVGA and at 24 frames per second.
This latest Motorola Phone also comes with a plethora of connections which include GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, Blue tooth and miniUSB. Internet access is provided by the HSDPA connection and Wi-Fi connections which offer speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. Internal memory is 1 Gb with the option to expand on this by using the microSD slot to bring the memory up to 32 Gb. GPS with A-GPS support is included which provides the satellite navigation element.
The Motorola Dext weighs in at 163 grams and is 15 mm thick. The unit is 114 mm x 58 mm wide. The phone comes with an MP3 / MP4 player, which uses the Shazam music finder service, as well as an organiser, document viewer and voice memo. The central processor is the Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz processor and as mentioned previously utilises the Android operating system known as Cupcake.
