Newly Announced Nokia Point & Find Service – Beta Version
Nokia have launched their new open source platform Point & Find service, well the beta version anyway. But nonetheless this new service should prove to be a bit hit. Users will no longer have to find trailers and related content to a box office release but instead simple point their phones camera at a movie poster, snap a picture and you’ll be redirected to related information for that movie such as reviews and the trailor and even where it’s showing with directions on how to get there.
Currently this service is only available in the UK and the US and for the time being focuses on movie information but its integration with GPS and support for bar code recognition means that this service will be available for so much more with its continued development.
Imagine being able to take a picture of say the Houses of Parliament or Big Ben and then being directed to all related information available on the Internet about that very building or structure . Well with the use of advanced image recognition software and a wireless web connection Nokia’s new Point & Find application will be capable of just that. Users will also be able to scan a barcode and get detailed information about products as well as make the most of category-specific text-entry searches for related information and reviews.

Nokia Point & Find Application and Service
Nokia have given the following as examples where their new Point and Find service would be extremely useful:
A visitor to a museum points their phone at any object on display and immediately accesses related multimedia content and invitations to special museum events.
A child at home points their phone at a toy and instantly enters related contests, downloads coupons, or purchases similar products.
A woman on the go in the city points her phone at a cool new car and instantly sees details, finds the closest dealership, or schedules a test drive.

Nokia Point and Find Service
Obviously this service isn’t going to work with all Nokia handsets but models such as the Nokia N95 8GB, N82, E51 and E66 for example will no doubt thrive with the inclusion of this service. Which phone will be the very first Nokia handset to boast the new service as a preinstalled application feature is not yet known so we will just have to wait and see.
