LG KP501 / KP500 – LG Cookie Review – LG KP500 Cookie Review
LG KP500 / KP501 Cookie Review:
Claiming to be one of the cheapest mobile phones with a TouchScreen, the LG KP501 / KP500 Cookie has drawn the interest of mobile fans worldwide. Offering a 3 mega pixels camera and a screen 3″ large, this phone can give iPhone a serious run for its money.
The confusion surrounding the correct model name of the Cookie phone has been further enhanced by the Orange network naming their silver version as the LG KP501, the majority of networks and retailers have now stuck with the LG KP500 name.
Though not in the same league as iPhone, the pricing makes the Cookie give good competition to iPhone. As the LG Cookie does not target the same market as the iPhone, a feature- by -feature comparison would not be fair. But LG KP500 does come with a decent touchscreen, and has pictures scrolling very similar to iPhone. Just like iPhone you can use Bluetooth, which can be used to transfer data effectively. It is smaller than iPhone in size. Another phone that LG Cookie beats in pricing is Nokia 5800.
A disadvantage here could be that it does not support WiFi and the touchscreen, though good, is not as great as iPhone.
The LG Cookie is much advanced if compared with LG’s earlier TouchScreen phone, ‘Prada’. It definitely looks more appealing. The device is sleek, smart and stylish especially in comparison to the predecessor. The UI has improved a lot. The look of the new LG KP500 Cookie is enhanced by plastic buttons in place of metallic buttons sported by Prada.
The tablet style used in the phone immediately puts it in a class with other top phones. Its 3-inch screen is the most prominent feature. It is small with 4.2″ by 2.2″ by 0.5″ measurements. It is only 89g and is easy on the hand. The display comes with a 240 by 400 pixels resolution and supports 256,000 colors. You can choose from four colors: Anodizing Silver, Elegant gold, Vandyke brown and Black.
The phone has three buttons under the screen one for call, one for stop and for running applications. There are slots for applications on the sides too.
The phone is soft to touch and leaves no fingerprint impressions except on its screen.

LG KP501 KP500 Cookie
The TouchScreen is easy to use and the stylus is an added plus. The UI has improved, and is great for a phone of this price. The call quality leaves nothing to be desired. The multimedia could have been improved. The 350 hours of talk time the phone promises makes it handy in long distance travel.
The Cookie has a very easy-to-operate contact system. A lot of information including phone numbers, address, email id, birthday etc can be fed in. The dialing screen allows you to look for contacts using phone numbers.
This handset allows you to customize a profile of your own. The ringtones are really catchy and like all other popular model, the MP3 files can also be used as ringtones. This gives you the liberty to download ringtones.
The video recorder, the mediaplayer and the camera make this phone excellent for those who prefer extra features offered with their phone. With the pricing and the features, LG Cookie can beat all other fresh launches in the market.

I’m thinking of getting this phone, but haven’t quite decided between this and the LG KS360. Help anyone?
June 11th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Please dont buy this phone. It freezes and turns itself off all the time. It resets itself, deletes all your pictures and the touch screen (its main attraction) is unreliable. It takes ages to do anything and the screen stops responding to touches. The phone is great for the first few days but you will regret it later. I have had the phone for less than six months and it has been sent away for repairs 4 times taking 2-3 weeks each time. Trust me you will regret it

i had lg ks360 and my bro did naw got kp501 wat a phone ks360 kept switching off on me and my bros 1 wouldn even knock on
June 20th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
my brother has got this phone and he says its pua lethal so get it i was garna get 1 but i got the sony ericsson c905 insteadd
June 23rd, 2009 at 4:57 pm
i have the exact same problem
my friends got the KS360 so i know its quite good
but i dont know anyone with the Kp501 so i can’t compare
but apparently the screen on the Kp501 is really reflective so it cant be used outdoors in the sun
but then again my friends KS360 randomly turns itself off
which did you decide on in the end?
June 24th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
The ks360 is nowhere near as advanced as the cookie. I would get the cookie every time.
June 26th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
how much is the sony ericsson c905 and which one out of the cookie & sony ericsson c905 has the best picture and video quality?
thanks!

Stay away from this phone if you need a phone that you can use whilst on the move in day time.
It has been designed for hermits who live in the dark as you will quickly find if you take your phone out somewhere. The screen is unreadable so you cannot even use the phone function.
July 4th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
get the KP501.
i have the KS360, and i don’t think it’s really that good. the keyboard gets annoying, the arrow keys on it affect where you’re typing when you’re writing a text, and sometimes when i get texts they’re blank. the screens really reflective as well, so its hard to see what you’re looking at in the sun.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
no way dont get the lg ks 360 it sucks i throw it out the window lol
im deff gettin the cookie cheers 4 the help peeps:)
July 10th, 2009 at 11:52 am

July 12th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
I only bought this phone yesterday and already I’m having problems. Tried to download two ringtones, it accepted my money, let me preview it OK but once installed it automatically deletes it!!!!
Also it goes on mute when in Normal profile so I cannot get my calls.
Orange are going to replace it but their systems are down so I’ll have to call back tomorrow somehow whilst I’m at work!!!
Hope the new one doesn’t cause problems otherwise it will be sent packing and I’ll go with an entirely different company.
July 22nd, 2009 at 8:22 am
heyy,, The KS360 keeps playing up with my mate it keeps turning itself off and locking,, it hasnt got any good applications on it and i would definatly go for the touchscreen kp500/501. The KP360 has a touchscreen on it but only to dial a quick number making the whole phone irepairable if the screen cracked/broke you would basically have to get a new phonee.
LG COOKIEE DEFOO

I got this phone about 2 1/2 months ago. Its a great phone, really simple to use but its so unreliable. The battery dies without warning and it is always freezing and shutting down. Complete waste of money. My girlfriend has the samsung touchscreen, get that instead, much better
July 28th, 2009 at 12:46 pm

hello every one i am getting this fone on the 24th of august for my alternative birthday. i am really looking forward to getting it as i have read all the good and bad (mostly good) comments you have written. i am sure it will be a great phone and i can show off infrount of my friends. lol! cya soon
August 4th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Are you all being serious? The only touchscreen out there that does everything bar wash your underpants is the iPhone 32gb 3GS. All other touchscreens simply do not come close. The ease of use combined with the unlimited amount of downloadable apps make it in a league of its own.
Dont waste your time with imitations. The novelty has worn off on every phone ive ever purchased within the first couple of days once ive transferred my music. Not the iphone, ive had it for a week and im still amazed by its functionality. Also it comes with WIFI, a must for tinkering with the phone when your in a wifi hotspot.
Get an iphone and get on the bandwagon!

August 20th, 2009 at 6:48 am
hi i just want to say: stay away from this phone!!!
it looks cool but honestly it is a joke.
ive had it for 1 month and i havent found anything interesting.
the pc suite is horrible.
the music files sound a little bit weird sometimes.. so you cant trust this phone to be your “little ipod” because youll hear your songs kind of deformed.
it shuts down whenever it wants, i think thats the worst issue on this phone.
the screen is sooooo reflective so dont even think about taking it out in a sunny day, your friends will laugh of you….
the pictures are great as long as theres light.
the battery does not last as much as they say. not even half the time…..
i really miss my nokia 5200…
September 3rd, 2009 at 11:29 pm

November 4th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
Lg has nice and good features. Everyone know that quality and cheap price. It’s compare to other product. If you can purchase a new mobile then once time you can think about LG. It’s really good.
November 7th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
its good for the first few months; but then once you drop it or someting the lock button will break and wont lock your phone, and with a slight knocksuch as putting it down on the table it will turn off.
November 12th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
I am 13 and a few months ago i wanted the KS360 cuz of the QWERTY keyboard it looked really cool, but cuz it was my b’day a few days ago i wanted money 2 get a new phone and 4 a few weeks i have wanted the LG KP500 in pink, but i don’t no wat the difference between the KP500 and the KP501, apart from the KP500 has square buttons not thin rectangles, and the reviews i have read haven’t changed my mind i am gettin the KP500 on saturday. It A rubbish phone dont no why your all biying it or want it. I got one and it just turn off all the time and it turn on and then it doesnt repsond to my touch grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr hate it
December 22nd, 2009 at 9:32 am
i brought a lg cookie k501 in pink 4 weeks ago. nothing wrong with it until yesterday it shutted it self down and when i turned it on i was so annoyed it was cracked :@
it hasent been dropped or sat on it or anything i putted my phone in a case with procetion film on it,
and it cost me £50 to get the screen repaired. im not going to get it repaired. it is a rubbish phone everyone dont buy it….
no wonder it is cheap touchphone because it freezes. lag badly and shuts down and ends up with a cracked phone.
i wasted £80 plus £10 top up on this phone and look what it did… i recommend you not to get this phone at all.
i was so disapointed with this phone. instead im going to get a lg tocco lite
so everyone its up to you.. take the risk on buying it and if it breaks your having to fork out more then £50 for repairs.
go ahead :/
December 25th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
bought this phone two weeks ago for a chrissie present. charged it and put in a vodafone sim and it just turns on and off repeatedly. no use wotsoever. going back to carphone warehouse to get me cash back. if they give me hassle it will turn very ugly. guaranteed.
December 27th, 2009 at 3:14 am
Had this for 2 days now, everything is fab apart from a few things
1) The stylus. When using, it slowly moves down and you have to keep extending it mid-text. Wouldnt be a problem if you dont use it that often like me
2) The colour. The main bar at the top is dark red. It would be much better if you could change this colour because to be honest, its not a great colour.
3) The sound. The quality through the earphones is faultless, but when played outloud, its a bit tinny and sharp. Again, not a problem if you wont be playing it outloud
Everything elese is good! Especially cusomer servie, maybe they were good just because its christmas, but first impressions were good.
If youre a new user to phones I would certainly reccomd this because its simlple and eay to use. The user guides are clear and simple, great for first time users of touchscreen phones.
5*!

i bought this phone just a week ago. it is a cool phone bt wanna tell u honestly don’t expect of having fun of iphone using it.
even the screen is not so sensitive bt it works fine for me and the price is also very cheap.
December 30th, 2009 at 5:38 am
SERIOUSLY HATE IT
Got the cookie, and it started freezing and stuff then randomly the screen just broke and just showed lines.
so after about 2 weeks of arguements i eventually got the shopt to replace it as i thought it was just a software fault with that fone.
Well i was wrong, now the replacement phone has started freezing, the touchsreen is slow and sometime unresponsive, when its on silent my phone still rings – a big problem in the theatre industry, when i go on the internet which is soo slow, as soon as i leave the home page to go somewhere else it shuts itself down and the phone turns off, the charger is fine but the phone doesnt always respond to it, both of my cookie phones deletes random pics/vids/songs, it has managed to wipe my entire sim card and memory card, aswell as the phone. it likes to delete my texts every few days even if there is only a couple in it.
ITS UTTER HELL
and the shop refuse to refund it.

This is a great phone for a cheap price.
I recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap touch-screen phone!
February 17th, 2010 at 1:03 am
Neally had this phone a year now and to be honest I thought at first it looked really cool and great but within 3 months it began calling random people, turning on and off – there was a case about ten mins ago when ma phone dead as ever and on my bedside table managed to turn it’s self off with out it been on. I’ve wanted a new phone now for ages but I’m in a two year contract with another year to go. So really it’s a novelty to start with then u hate it and get bored with it. < just take it into consideration when purchasing the lg cookie / kp500.
March 2nd, 2010 at 1:29 pm
i have the lg cookie kp501.loooooved it until about 2 and half months ago when it started turning itself off.sometimes it wont come back on for an hour which is bloody annoying. i have found that if i take the battery out and blow on it and where the battery connects to the phone 95% of the time i can turn it back on straight away.
July 6th, 2010 at 6:40 pm
mine was great for 7 months but now it has randomly started switching off and i cant get it to work for ages. consider a different phone
August 22nd, 2010 at 11:35 am

November 13th, 2010 at 12:05 am
Wud luv my lg if it stopped misbehavin………..it freezes, it switches off, it sends me delivery notes from people I haven’t sent messages at all hours of the day and night, it literally has a mind of it’s own. Often have to dismantle it take the sim out and re assemble in order to gat it working
Now when the bluetooth is on it is scrambling my radio stations in the car and switchin on and off repeatedly when paired with the hands free………………………..gutted, but I think I m goin to have to kill it n get something else. Arrrrgh
November 19th, 2010 at 12:45 am
